Beginner's Tips For Moving

Moving house is a stressful enough time if you’ve done it before, but if you’re new to the experience then there’s a lot for you to worry about! Everything from hiring a removal company to proper packing can cause stress for first-time movers, and if you’re preparing to move to a new property for the first time then there are plenty of things for you to consider. Here is a list of beginner’s tips for moving house, so that you can start planning and preparing for your house move! 1)    There’s no such thing as doing too much preparation when it comes to your house move. There are so many things to get ready for that it’s just impossible to be too prepared! Start as early as you can by de-cluttering your home to get rid of anything you don’t want. You might find it useful to separate your belongings into different piles: one for keeping and packing, one for throwing away, one for donating to charity and even one for selling your unwanted items. This can be a great way to not only get rid of some of your belongings, but also for you to make some money as well! 2)    Once you have only the items you want to take with you to your new home it’s time to start sourcing removal boxes. If you have the money then you might want to purchase removal boxes which are sturdier and better for carrying heavy items. If this is a little out of your budget however then don’t fret! Talk to the managers of your local shops and supermarkets to see if you can have some second-hand boxes. Be careful that you don’t overload these boxes as they have been used before, which might mean they’re likely to break. Reinforce any second hand boxes with a sturdy packing tape to avoid them breaking open on moving day! 3)    If you choose to hire a removal company for your house move then now is the time to start looking. Some removal companies, especially those which are well-regarded, can become fully booked weeks or even months in advance. Try shopping around to find a company that’s experienced but also available when you need them to be! Make sure you’re paying attention to the offered services, and do your research to find a reliable and affordable company that you can trust! 4)    Your boxes all need to be clearly labelled with the room from which they’re from. This will make your unpacking process a lot faster and easier. Use a thick marker so you can tell straight away which boxes need to go where. Another good idea is to number your boxes in order of importance or necessity. This will give you a good idea of where to start unpacking once you’re in your new home! 5)    When it comes to moving day try not to worry yourself too much. Enlist the help of friends and family so that you’re not on your own, and make sure that all of the last-minute jobs have been completed in plenty of time so that you’re not rushing around when your removal team arrive! Plan lots of breaks during the moving process so that you stay relaxed and don’t forget to pack yourself a lunch! It’s important to keep hydrated as well, so pack a bottle of water or two for the journey!
